Mark Mitchell
Western Area VP

Western Area Vice President and Local 20 Business Manager Mark Mitchell brings a far-reaching and successful background in the labor movement to IFPTE. After a year-long search by Local 20, Mitchell was hired to serve as Business Manager in May 2006. Shortly thereafter, Mitchell was elected to serve as one of two IFPTE Western Area Vice Presidents.

Before being hired by Local 20, Mitchell was a Senior Business Representative and Negotiator for numerous American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Locals in Southern California. While serving as the Western Executive for the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), he negotiated precedent-setting contracts at the San Francisco Symphony and at Seattle Opera. In addition, with AGMA, Mitchell led a successful year-long health and safety campaign at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. During his time as Counsel for the Writers Guild of America, he led efforts to unionize Spanish and Portuguese-language writers in Latin America.

Hailing from Winter Park, Florida, Mitchell earned a bachelors degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Southern California. He brings a strong background in organizing, campaign work, union administration, and law to IFPTE.
