
Gerald Newsome
Atlantic Area VP
Gerald Newsome, Trustee Chair of Local 195, was unanimously selected to fill the unexpired term of Atlantic Area Vice President by the Locals of the Atlantic Council. This vacancy was created by the untimely death of Dominick D. Critelli.
Newsome, a longtime union activist, began his association with Local 195 in 1982 as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Greystone Park Chapter. He ran for and was elected Chapter President in 1986. He held that position until 1996 when he was hired as a Business Representative for Local 195. Gerald has held the positions of Presidential Assistant, Unit President and Trustee.
Newsome is Language Committee Chair on Local 195's Negotiations Team as well as its Lead Spokesman. He serves as Co-Chair of the Local's Political Action Committee and editor of Local 195's newsletter. He is Vice President of the Industrial Union Council (IUC), a member of the Central/Northern Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and a member of A. Philip Randolph Institute Essex County, New Jersey Chapter.
Newsome has completed various labor internships at Rutgers Labor Education Center and the George Meany Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. In June of 1997 he graduated from the Union Leadership Academy at Rutgers University.
Gerald was born in North Carolina and grew up in New Jersey. He's married to wife Barbara Jean and they have two daughters, Alnisa Denae and Tempestt Ann.
