Gregory J. Junemann was unanimously elected to serve as president of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) AFL-CIO & CLC at the union's 54th Convention in July 2003 after being appointed to the position in March 2001. Under President Junemann's direction, IFPTE's goals have focused on leadership development and on revitalizing the union's legislative and political efforts. These efforts have given the union a stronger voice in influencing national policy. His guidance has often merited IFPTE recognition in national publications such as the Washington Post, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal.
In 2005, Junemann was elected to the AFL-CIO Executive Council. Junemann serves as Co-Chair of the AFL-CIO Organizing Committee and is also a member of several AFL-CIO committees including: Training and Education, International Affairs, Political Policy, State and Local Organizations, and Public Affairs.
In addition, Junemann is a Vice President of two departments within the AFL-CIO: the Transportation Trades Department (TTD) and the Department for Professional Employees (DPE), and he serves as the US representative on the Steering Committee for Professional Workers on the International Metalworkers Federation.
Recognizing the role that professionals represented by IFPTE play in the global market and industries, IFPTE has sought to increase its presence on a broader international level. Under Junemann, the union is diligently working to coordinate IFPTE's efforts with the global labor community to network with professional societies in the fields of engineering and applied science.
Before assuming his presidential post, Junemann was serving his third term as Secretary-Treasurer/Director of Organizing for IFPTE, a position he was first elected to in 1994. As Secretary-Treasurer, he was IFPTE's Chief Financial Officer, responsible for all aspects of the Federation's finances.
As Director of Organizing, President Junemann revitalized IFPTE's organizing efforts. Under his direction and leadership, the Union organized and/or affiliated twenty-three new Local unions representing an increase in membership of 240% since 1994.
President Junemann has written numerous brochures used in the Union's organizing campaigns. He authored "Extend the Invitation" (E.T.I.), a training manual for internal organizing. He has conducted ETI workshops at many Local unions across the country. He authored IFPTE's Annual Scholarship program, which awards three scholarships to children and grandchildren of IFPTE members. He wrote the Union's manual "Guidelines for Local Union Financial Officers" and is a regular contributor to IFPTE's quarterly publication, "The IFPTE OUTLOOK."
Prior to his election as Secretary-Treasurer, Junemann served IFPTE as the Midwest Area Vice President (1986-1994) and was the Finance Committee Chairman (1988-1994).
