
Joseph McGee
Northwestern Area VP
Joseph L. McGee is the son of a union organizer. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He received his law degree from Santa Clara University. He is a member of the Bar in California and Washington state. He has extensive labor relations experience which includes worker advocacy in hearings and arbitrations. He has negotiated over 200 labor agreements. McGee has served in staff positions at various AFL-CIO affiliated unions since 1981. He has been Executive Director of IFPTE Local 17 in Seattle since 1994. Local 17, with over 7,000 members, is IFPTE's second largest Local. Vice President McGee is proud of the long list of innovative changes in the operation of Local 17 that have been introduced under his leadership. He is committed to more change and more growth for IFPTE's Northwestern Area and for Local 17, one of the most progressive Local unions in Washington state. McGee has two daughters, Erin and Brenna, and enjoys a rich partnership with his wife Paula which began in 1972. Vice President McGee was first elected to the IFPTE Executive Council in 1994 and has consistently been reelected, most recently at the 53rd Convention in July 2000.
