IFPTE Celebrates Black History Month

 
Dr. Martha Burnett-Collins

Dr. Martha Burnett-Collins has practiced Optometry since 1984. She received her BA degree from San Diego State University and her Doctor of Optometry degree from UC Berkeley school of Optometry. She practiced Optometry in two different settings, simultaneously. She is currently practicing with Kaiser Permanente since 1984 and practiced in the Air Force Reserves from 1989-2012, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Burnett-Collins has accomplished many things thus far in her professional life time. Below is a timeline of some of these events:

1988 - Started her Kaiser Career at the Roseville medical offices
1989 - Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force Reserves, Travis AFB
1991 - Called to active duty to serve in Operation Desert Storm
1995 - Present-Transferred to the Kaiser facility South Sacramento
1995 - Appointed shop steward by the late Rep Joe Regacho
2007-2009 - Appointed to the California State Board of Optometry by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
2009-2010 - Appointed Secretary-Treasurer of ESC Local 20 by President John Mader.
2010 - Reclassified as an IMA officer in the Air Force Reserves stationed at the US Air Force Academy - Colorado Springs, Colorado.
2012 - Retired from the US Air Force Reserves

During her professional career, Dr. Burnett-Collins has been married to her wonderful husband, Ed Collins, and they both raised 3 children.

They are currently building their dream home in a gated community in Elk grove, CA. This home is on an acre of land and includes a beach home on the grounds for their guests reminiscent of her San Diego childhood.

Dr. Burnett-Collins believes in giving back to her community. She currently tutors ROTC students from the local high school in testing techniques for the military entrance exam (ASVAB). She is also the Community Service Chairperson for her Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.

Dr. Burnett-Collins and her husband attend Destiny church in Sacramento, California and will be holding seminars for young people teaching them economic empowerment.
