EA Protests Heads to Huntsville

This week members and leaders from the Engineering Association (EA/IFPTE Local 1937) and the IFPTE national travelled to Huntsville, Alabama to continue to bring transparency and community awareness around the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) reckless off-shoring of 220 IT jobs.

The protest event, which was also attended by area AFL-CIO central labor councils representatives, featured 220 lawn signs to signify each worker who is slated to lose their job, a march to the Huntsville TVA building demanding that these jobs be saved, and a press conference where workers told their stories to local television and news organizations.

Gay Henson, President of the EA/IFPTE Local 1937 and IFPTE Eastern Federal Area Vice President, commented, saying that, “it is critically important that we continue to inform TVA’s rate-payers that this reckless offshoring of TVA federal government jobs is not only fiscally irresponsible and without transparency, but it will also result in the loss of $88 million to economies throughout the Tennessee Valley. We are thankful for the great support of the community, elected leaders of all political stripes, and our union Sisters and Brothers.”

Secretary-Treasurer Matt Biggs, IFPTE Local 27 President George Hamilton, and former Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions were also in attendance, while Alabama Senator Doug Jones provided a statement of support.
