IFPTE Affiliates Prove Young Professionals Value Unions

IFPTE affiliates are once again proving young professionals value unions.

The GAO Employees Organization (GAO/IFPTE Local 1921), recently held a very successful informational luncheon for new probationary employees going through the Professional Development Program (PDP) at GAO, with over 100 PDP’s in attendance.

Local 1921’s PDP Elected Representatives, Rebecca Mendelsohn, Samuel Portnow, and Gita Devaney, put together this event, along with Sarah Cantatore, Local 1921’s elected LGBT Representative.

They went over the basics of their CBA and union, as well as answered questions. “Not only did we have a great turnout, but we received thoughtful questions that showed folks care about their careers and the future of our agency” said Ben Emmel, GAO Senior Analyst and 1921’s Vice President for Membership. “I hope most, if not all, join as members and continue our work to keep up GAO’s high reputation and success.”

Next steps--Ben and the other union reps plan to follow-up with individuals to go over any remaining questions and to explain the value of their union in ensuring that they have a productive career, not only at GAO but at other organizations.
