IFPTE Calls On Congress to Extend FLTCIP Renewal Deadline

Following up on last week’s request to Hill lawmakers requesting legislation to provide relief to participants enrolled in the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP), IFPTE legislative staff followed up this week urging Congress to legislate an extension on the renewal deadline, which is currently set for September 30th.

IFPTE's request comes after the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)--tasked with, but failing to, provide proper oversight of the program--refused to provide an extension.

With Congressional hearings expected in November or December, IFPTE argued in emails to the office of Senator Mikulski and others that Congress needs to step up so that federal workers enrolled in the program have the, “transparency and the proper information regarding the reliability of the benefit before they can be expected to continue, or not, in the program.”
