IFPTE Endorses Carrie Blackwood for State Senate

Long-time member of the IFPTE family seeks to represent Washington’s 40th Legislative District.

WASHINGTON, DC – The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), representing 90,000 workers in the federal, public and private sectors, including more than 25,000 in Washington State, announced their backing today of Carrie Blackwood for Washington State Senate.

IFPTE leaders commented on the endorsement:

President Paul Shearon: “IFPTE is honored to be the first AFL-CIO affiliated union to endorse Carrie Blackwood for State Senate. As a former Boeing employee, SPEEA staffer and current SPEEA member, I am proud to have worked very closely with Carrie for many years. Carrie has fought for countless IFPTE members through her many years at both IFPTE Local 17 and SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001, and she will take that experience and knowledge with her to Olympia. There is no doubt that she will be a strong voice for labor in the Washington legislature and IFPTE is proud to lend our support to Carrie as she seeks office in Washington’s Senate.”

Secretary-Treasurer Matt Biggs: “When it comes to the definition of the word Solidarity, Carrie doesn’t just talk-the-talk, she walks-the-walk. She will fight in solidarity with working people to improve our retirement security, protect and expand collective bargaining rights in all sectors of our economy, strengthen public education for all people, and shore up our broken health care system, just to name a few. IFPTE is certainly lucky to have had her as a part of our union family through her years at SPEEA and Local 17, and we are pleased to back her candidacy for the Washington Senate.”

The 40th legislative district includes the neighborhoods of Bellingham, Skagit County, and the San Juan Islands. To learn more about Carrie, visit her webpage.
