IFPTE Endorses Senator Susan Collins

Senator Collins has been a champion for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

WASHINGTON, DC – Today the International Federation of Professional and
Technical Engineers (IFPTE) announced their backing of Maine Senator, Susan
Collins, for a 4th term in the United States Senate.

IFPTE President Gregory Junemann issued the following comment in response
to IFPTE’s endorsement:

“Senator Collins has been a steadfast and unapologetic champion for
the workers and mission of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. IFPTE and
the members of Local 4 will not soon forget her integral role in saving the
shipyard from closure at the eleventh hour during the last round of Base
Realignment and Closure (BRAC). Given that many in Congress have joined
the administration in calling for yet another round of BRAC, it is
obviously essential that she remain in the Senate. After all, she has a
successful track record and in-depth knowledge of how to keep Portsmouth
safe from a BRAC. IFPTE is pleased to support her candidacy.”

IFPTE Legislative and Political Director Matt Biggs also commented:

“Senator Collins is a unique lawmaker on Capitol Hill. Her door is always
open to Local 4 and she has always been there for our members when it
comes to worker critical issues at the Portsmouth Shipyard. I can personally
remember when she worked with our union for many years to slow down and
eventually eliminate the very damaging National Security Personnel System.
And it is no secret to anyone who follows Congress that she is one of the few,
yet critically important, bipartisan voices of reason here in Washington. She is
one of the top lawmakers on the Hill and IFPTE is pleased to back her.”

IFPTE Local 4 is the largest labor union at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard,
representing 1,595 workers. Overall IFPTE represents 90,000 workers in the
United States and Canada.
