IFPTE Endorses Speaker Pelosi for Re-Election

IFPTE Endorses Speaker Pelosi for Re-Election

WASHINGTON, DC – The International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers (IFPTE) today announced the union’s endorsement of Speaker Nancy Pelosi for re-election to the United States House of Representatives. The following IFPTE officers commented:

IFPTE President Paul Shearon:
“Speaker Pelosi has been in lock-step with labor since she entered Congress as a rank-and-file member of the House in 1987, and as she ascended through the leadership ranks and ultimately to Speaker, she has consistently been a champion for working people and their unions. As a union that represents tens of thousands of workers in California, many who live and work in and around her congressional district, IFPTE is proud to lend her our continued support.”

IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer/Legislative Director Matt Biggs:
“Speaker Pelosi has been as steadfast a supporter of labor as there is in the United States Congress. There is no better proof of this than ensuring that we not only got a vote on the Employee Free Choice Act in 2007 during her first stint as Speaker, but we got a vote of approval of this much-needed labor law reform legislation. Fast forward thirteen years later to today and the Speaker is continuing to use her position as Speaker to push the current day version of EFCA, The PRO Act, which she has scheduled for the House floor as early as next week. Speaker Pelosi walks the walk in support of labor and IFPTE is honored to endorse her.”

IFPTE Western Vice President Larry Griffin:
“As a long-time Democratic party activist in California, including serving as president of the California Young Democrats many years ago, I am up close and personal when it comes to working with the Speaker at the grassroots level on union and worker issues. She and her staff never hesitate to address the concerns of not only IFPTE members at Local 21 and throughout the Bay Area, but IFPTE and union members all throughout the nation. IFPTE is pleased to endorse the Speaker and looks forward to working closely with her in the next Congress and beyond.”

IFPTE is an AFL-CIO affiliated labor union representing upwards of 90,000 workers in the United States and Canada.
