WASHINGTON, DC – The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) announced the union’s support for New Jersey Congressman Andy Kim for a second term in the United States House of Representatives. In doing so, the following IFPTE elected leaders commented on the endorsement:

IFPTE President Paul Shearon:
“IFPTE was proud to back Congressman Kim when he sought this seat in 2018, and we are proud to do so once again. In just his first term in office, Representative Kim has established himself as a staunch supporter of working families and is an outspoken advocate for robust collective bargaining rights for workers in all sectors of our economy. IFPTE is proud to support him.”

IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer/Legislative Director Matt Biggs:
“It’s no secret that the third congressional district of New Jersey will be a hotly contested race, which explains why IFPTE is releasing this early endorsement. It’s obviously very important for IFPTE members, not only in New Jersey but across the United States, that Representative Kim maintain this seat. He has been a champion for all of the issues IFPTE deems as critical to the betterment of our members and we are happy to lend him our full support.”

IFPTE Atlantic Area VP/IFPTE Local 195 VP Gerald Newsome:
“Whether standing with public sector workers against the union busting Janus decision in the Supreme Court or standing with government workers as we seek fair wages, pensions and benefits, Representative Kim has established himself as a champion for New Jersey’s working families. IFPTE is happy to support him.”

IFPTE Atlantic Area VP/IFPTE Local 196 President Sean McBride:
“With last year’s victory, Representative Kim was the first pro-union, pro-worker Congressman that the 3rd Congressional district has had in a very long time. For example, he is a cosponsor of the Protecting the Right to Organize Act to help level the playing field for workers who are seeking to organize unions. It is imperative that Congressman Kim is re-elected in 2020 so he can continue fighting for the issues that are important to IFPTE Local 196 members, and all IFPTE members.”

IFPTE Local 195 President/IFPTE Atlantic Area President Timothy Rudolph:
“Congressman Kim has provided New Jersey working families and our unions great representation in Washington, DC. He clearly understands that with strong unions and collective bargaining comes better wages, pensions, health benefits and opportunities for all of New Jersey’s working people. We need to keep Andy Kim in Congress and IFPTE is happy to stand with him.”

IFPTE is a labor union representing upwards of 90,000 workers in the private, public and federal sectors, including upwards of 15,000 public sector workers in New Jersey.
