IFPTE Local Information Request--Trump Administration Budget Blueprint Released

Eliminates critical government agencies while shifting billions to the DoD

This week the Trump Administration released their much anticipated Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) budget blueprint outlining proposals to drastically cut or eliminate altogether countless programs and agencies, including in places where IFPTE represents members. Below is an information call sent out on Thursday from IFPTE’s legislative department to all IFPTE Locals – federal, public and private alike – seeking information on how this budget hurts or helps their members:

Attached is a list of some of the programs and agencies whose budgets are slated for elimination within the Trump Administration budget blueprint released today. Some of these directly impact IFPTE members – like the elimination of the Legal Services Corporation, the NASA Education Office, and a nearly one-third cut to the EPA budget, just to name a few.

If your Local is directly or indirectly impacted by these budget suggestions, please let us know here so we can work with Congressional appropriators and authorizers to work against these cuts. If your Local might benefit from this budget, please inform us of that as well.

Keep in mind, this is not a law or the final budget numbers. Rather, it is a marker laid down by the Trump Administration as to their position on the government’s spending. At the end of the day Congress determines what money is spent where, so we will take our concerns there with respect to the budget.

We will obviously be working legislatively on the numbers where our members are impacted, but I wanted to share this with all of the Locals and ask for your feedback on how your members could be impacted (private, public and federal sectors alike). Please reply to the IFPTE Legislative Director, Matt Biggs, at mbiggs@ifpte.org, or (202) 239-4880 with your response to the budget blueprint.

From the Washington Post: A list of agencies and programs targeted for elimination is below, with one major caveat: Many other projects are likely on Trump's proposed chopping block, as the budget blueprint refers in several places to programs targeted for elimination without specifically naming them.
