IFPTE Mourns the Loss of Brother Carl Merchant

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our union brother, Carl Merchant; he passed away over the weekend.

Gay Henson, president of the Engineering Association (EA/IFPTE Local 1937) and IFPTE Eastern Federal Area Vice President, said, "Brother Merchant loved people! He always looked out for his beloved friends and co-workers. His deeply held values surrounding the mission of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) lead him to approach everything with great passion and with a tremendous work ethic. We at the Engineering Association are so blessed by the time we had with Carl and for his leadership as the Valley-Wide Secretary."

IFPTE Organizer Chris Langford worked alongside Brother Merchant doing internal organizing for the Local. Said Langford, "I am saddened to hear about Carl's passing. He was definitely an asset to the Local and I enjoyed working with him to grow their membership. His passing is not just a loss for the Local but for the entire IFPTE family. He will be missed."

Brother Merchant's spirit was sweet and true and he will forever be loved and missed.

A memorial to celebrate the life of Brother Merchant will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home (7454 East Brainerd Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37421). Visitation with friends and family will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., prior to the service.
