IFPTE Mourns the Loss of North Carolina Congressman Walter Jones

IFPTE is sad to report the death of North Carolina Congressman, Walter Jones. Congressman Jones, who passed away on Sunday, February 10th, was a longtime friend to IFPTE and our membership. Among the many issues he advocated for, to the benefit of tens of thousands of IFPTE represented members, was the repeal of the union busting National Security Personnel System (NSPS), the preservation of official time in the federal sector, opposition to BRAC, and a robust defense budget that preserved and grew our nation’s Navy, naval bases and its workforce.

IFPTE International President, Paul Shearon, and Secretary-Treasurer, Matt Biggs, issued a joint statement on behalf the union, saying that, “Congressman Jones was as steadfast a supporter of our nation’s military personnel as he was of those federal civilian employees who worked to support them. He never wavered from supporting legislation that was aimed improving the working lives of federal workers, and the preservation of their unions.

IFPTE sends our condolences out to his family, staff and constituents.” Representative Jones served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983-1993, and again from 1995 until his passing on Sunday. Read the statement from his office.
