IFPTE Takes to Capitol Hill in Support of Official Time

In anticipation of a potential House floor vote next week, IFPTE legislative staff was joined by Western Federal Area Vice President/IFPTE Local 30 President Lee Stone, on the House side of Capitol Hill earlier this week to visit key lawmakers in relation to HR 1364, a bill sponsored by Georgia Congressman Jody Hice aimed at eliminating the ability of elected federal union officials from using official time. Specifically, the Hice bill would link cuts to federal worker earned pension benefits and bonuses to the use of official time.

Among the members of Congress that IFPTE met with were staff and lawmakers who have historically been supportive of official time. They included visits with Rep. Chris Smith (R, NJ), and with staff from the offices of Representatives Evan Jenkins (R, WV), David McKinley (WV, 1), Bill Johnson (R, OH), Michael Turner (R, OH), Frank LoBiondo (R, NJ), David Joyce (R, OH), Jim Renacci (R, OH) and Rob Wittman (R, VA). IFPTE thanked all of these members for their past support of official time and urged them vote NO on HR 1364 when it comes to the House floor.
