IFPTE Veterans Committee Holds Its Spring/Summer Meeting

The IFPTE Veterans Committee held its first meeting of 2018.

Among the highlights of the meeting was a presentation from AFL-CIO Union Veterans Council Executive Director, Will Attig, as well as discussions regarding the major Veterans related legislation moving through Congress.

SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001 Veterans Committee member Mike Shea also gave a presentation on the latest work of the SPEEA Veterans Committee, including Local 2001s findings from a survey of SPEEA represented Veterans highlighting the most important issues impacting them as Veterans. Among the top concerns were access to good jobs, training on the job, and access to quality Veterans healthcare through the VA.

Legislative issues discussed was the passage of S. 2372, which will open the doors up to VA healthcare privatization and was signed into law by President Trump this week over the objections of IFPTE. Veterans from Locals 12, 30, 121, 195, 1937, and 2001 participated.

The next Veterans Committee meeting with be held in late October/early November, and there will be a Veterans caucus at the IFPTE convention in late June. All IFPTE Veterans who wish to join the committee are welcome. Please contact Matt Biggs or Candace Rhett at (202) 239-4880.
