IFPTE Veterans Committee Hosts Its Spring 2017 Meeting

The IFPTE Veterans Committee held its Spring meeting this week. Among the highlights of the meeting was a talk from the new AFL-CIO Union Veterans Council Executive Director, Will Attig, as well as discussions regarding the major Veterans related legislation moving through Congress.

Mike Shea, Veterans Committee Chair of SPEEA/Local 2001, gave a presentation on the latest work of the SPEEA's Veterans Committee, including the Local's intention to conduct a survey of their union to determine how many members are Veterans and what issues are important to them.

Some of the major legislative issues discussed were how Congress is scapegoating workers at the Veterans Administration (VA), many who are Veterans themselves, and IFPTEs work to prevent damaging legislation for the VA workers and the Veterans they serve from moving through Congress.

Veterans from Locals 3, 4, 20, 30, 121, 195, 1937, and 2001 participated. The next Veterans Committee meeting with be held in late October/early November. All IFPTE Veterans who wish to join the committee are welcome. Please contact Matt Biggs or Candace Rhett at (202) 239-4880.
