Local 1 Joins IFPTE's LEAP PAC Program

Last week IFPTE Local 1 President Chris Butler hosted a meeting in Portsmouth, Virginia, which included a presentation on the IFPTE LEAP PAC program.

The effort to build the PAC was reinforced at IFPTE's 2015 Convention where delegates voted to put in place a comprehensive PAC program. Our PAC program would not only allow members themselves to get better involved in IFPTEís legislative advocacy with lawmakers, but would also boost our Unionís legislative program by focusing on the key issues impacting IFPTEís diverse membership.

IFPTE legislative staff informed Local 1 members that building the PAC was not about politics, rather it was about supporting candidates for office who support the specific worker related issues of importance to IFPTE members. Pointing out that IFPTE supports both Democrats and Republicans who are friends of our Union, the discussion was about issues such as federal pay and pensions, protecting against BRAC, and preserving retirement security, among other issues. Local 1 joins Locals 3, 4, 30, 32, 70, 121 and 2001 in joining the LEAP Year program, with Locals 92 and 400 set to join the program in the coming weeks.

IFPTE thanks Local 1 for their support!
