Local 196 Backed Bill Promoting Roadside Safety Advances in New Jersey

Not only is Local 196 delivering for their members at the bargaining table, they are also producing in the legislative arena, as the IFPTE-backed bill sponsored by State Senators Ronald L. Rice and Sandra B. Cunningham passed unanimously this week in the State Senate. The bill would to put in place strong worker protections for public employees working on the State’s highways.

Local 196 President/Atlantic Area Vice President Sean McBride applauded the passage:

“On behalf of the members of Local 196, particularly the hundreds who work along our roadways, I applaud the Senate for moving this bill, and I thank the 38 Senators who voted to support it, particularly Senators Rice and Cunningham for taking the lead in ensuring that our workers are not put in needlessly dangerous work situations along our highways. And our sincerest thanks to IFPTE President Paul Shearon and Secretary-Treasurer Matt Biggs, as they have done so much for us and for public employees in New Jersey. We look forward to the State Assembly quickly following the Senate’s lead"
