Local 196 Reaches Out to NJ Senator to Protect the Safety of Their Members and the Public

Following up on meetings on Capitol Hill earlier this month with New Jersey lawmakers, IFPTE Local 196 President Sean McBride reached out to one of the best labor supporters in the New Jersey State Senate, Ron Rice, asking for his sponsorship of bill aimed at protecting state workers along New Jersey’s highways and toll roads.

In a letter to Senator Rice, McBride requested that the Senator consider introducing and fostering to passage a bill, “mandating that public sector workers be forbidden from cutting grass and otherwise work outside of work vehicles directly along the highways during inclement weather unless absolutely necessary,” and that, “the legislation also calls for the formation of a permanent, joint labor/management safety committee that meets regularly to establish and update safety worker and public safety procedures…”.
