Locals 121 and 4 Visit Capitol Hill in Support of Veterans, Federal Workers

Leaders from IFPTE Locals 4 and 121 visited with Congressional staff and lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week regarding legislation that will impact federal workers.

Local 121 President Jaime Hiranaka and Vice President Irwan Sie met with Senator Brian Schatz (HI), and Representatives Colleen Hanabusa (HI) and Tulsi Gabbard (HI), as well as staff from the office of Senator Mazie Hirono (HI).

Mark Nelson from Local 4 met with Representatives Carol Shea-Porter (NH) and Chellie Pingree (ME). Locals discussed working with members of Congress to oppose legislation moving through the Senate that will gut the due process rights of Veterans Administration workers, and bills before the House that are aimed to do away with official time.

Both delegations, accompanied by IFPTE legislative staff, also urged lawmakers to pass legislation to restore full per diem payments to DoD's long term travelers, among other issues.
