Washington, DC - Seeking to be a part of a community of other organized professionals, the Merit System Protection Board Professional Association (MSPB-PA) voted to affiliate with the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE). The MSPB-PA is a union run by and for the 85 Administrative Judges and Attorneys employed at the U.S. Merit System Protection Board (MSPB).

“The MSPB-PA has a long history of ensuring the professional staff within the MSPB have a voice in policies and practices that impact their careers and the service they provide to the federal merit system. “Given their reputation in advocating for professionals, including other federal judges, we are honored to form an alliance with the IFPTE,” remarked MSPB-PA President, Judge Kasandra Robinson Styles.

“IFPTE is excited to add another affiliate of dedicated professionals who see value not only in having the ability to advocate for their career and work, but who also understand the importance of being in a larger community who understands and values their independence and professionalism,” said IFPTE President Paul Shearon.

The U.S. Merit System Protection Board (MPSB) is an independent Executive agency, formed in 1979, that guards the U.S. federal merit system from partisan political and other prohibited personal practices. Primarily, the MSPB adjudicates individual federal employee appeals, as well as conducts merit systems studies and reviews the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) actions that impact merit.

The IFPTE represents over 80,000 professionals in the private, public and federal sectors. Within the latter, members include the Administration Law Judges at the Social Security Administration, and Immigration Judges within the Executive Office for Immigration Review at the Department of Justice. IFPTE is well known for representing high-skilled professional and technical employees and has become the union of choice for many federal professional employees.

Across the nation, IFPTE represents 80,000 highly-skilled workers in both the public and private sectors. The union is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO. More information can be found at www.ifpte.org.
