NAIJ on Capitol Hill to Visit Lawmakers

Judge Denise Slavin, former president of the National Association of Immigration Judges (NAIJ/Judicial Council 2), visited several key Congressional offices this week in Washington to present important NAIJ issues of concern to lawmakers.

Judge Slavinís visit, which comes at a time when the full Senate could consider immigration related legislation dealing with DACA while also including resources for hiring more IJs, was aimed at educating lawmakers on the unionís concerns with the Department of Justiceís (DoJ) attempted imposition of quotas on IJs and how they will only increase the case backlog in U.S. Immigration Courts.

Judge Slavin, who was joined by IFPTE national legislative staff and Local legislative staff on the Hill, visited the offices of Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Diane Feinstein (D-CA), Charles Grassley (R-IA), and Jon Cornyn (R-TX).
