SOLIDARITY ALERT: SUP/IFPTE Local 160 Mobilizes to Save Bill 148

In response to Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s efforts to turn the clock back on worker’s rights, this week members of The Society of United Professionals (SUP/IFPTE Local 160) joined the Ontario Federation of Labour’s campaign to preserve the many worker gains that were procured through Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces and Better Jobs Act.

The legislation, which was passed into law in the Province just last year, made improvements to sick and emergency leave days for all workers; increased holidays; mandated equal pay for part-time workers doing the same job as full-time employees; improved worker scheduling protections; increased protections for temporary agency workers; and increased the minimum wage to $15/hour.

The Ford government is seeking to overturn many of the gains included in Bill 148, prompting The Society to encourage their members, “to contact your local MPP and let them know that you want to see the improvements enshrined in Bill 148 remain.” Read Local 160's message to their members.
