SPEEA Testifies Before Washington State Senate Regarding Paid Family Leave

SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001 members and legislative staff testified on January 20 before the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee during a public hearing on Senate Bill 6216 (SB 6216) to prevent Boeing from denying its union-represented employees Paid Family & Medical Leave.

The legislation is as a result of Boeing’s decision to block implementation of the benefit to union-represented workers until October 2022, when SPEEA’s contracts expire, unless SPEEA members agree to contract takeaways. Brandon Anderson, SPEEA legislative director, opened the testimony from SPEEA, followed by Amy Freiburghaus, Justin Hoehn and Dan Nowlin. Also attending the hearing were 10 others, including SPEEA President/IFPTE Vice President Joel Funfar, who came to support the bill.
