SPEEA Wins Two Awards at the ILCA 2018 Labor Media Awards

The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001) won two awards at the International Labor Communicators Association (ILCA) 2018 Labor Media Awards luncheon held in Washington, DC at the AFL-CIO on December 7th.

SPEEA's Publication Editor, Karen McLean, won first place for the Best Profile from a National/International for her article in the SPEEA Spotlite, "SPEEA Member Shares Transition to Authentic Self", (October 2017 Spotlite, page 8). Communications Director, Bill Dugovich, won second place for the Saul Miller award for Best Organizing article, 'Almeida: Embrace and Encourage Ideas of Younger Workers' (July 2017 Spotlite, page 6), profiling DPE's former president Paul Almeida. The Saul Miller award is named after the late Saul Miller, a director of the AFL-CIO Department of Information and a founder of the ILCA, and they highlight writing related to key activities of unions: organizing, collective bargaining, and political action. McLean attended the event to accept the awards for herself and Dugovich.

The event was attended by communicators from around the labor movement to celebrate a vast spectrum of achievements from the visual, website, print, general excellence, social media, and electronic media fields.

IFPTE congratulates Karen McLean, Bill Dugovich, and SPEEA on their awards.
