WSN Conference Call Talks #MeToo Movement

The IFPTE Women’s Solidarity Network held its 4th installment of their Women & Unions International Conference Call series this past Wednesday. The one-hour teleconference focused on understanding the #MeToo movement and what implications it has on workplaces and unions.

Featured speaker, Molly McCracken, Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) Manitoba, provided an overview of #MeToo and preceding movements; identified the prevalence and sources of harassment; and examined varying responses to the issue, including what unions have done and should do to build a culture that is free from sexual harassment and abuse.

Also presenting on the teleconference was Karen McLean from SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001. Her talk focused on what Locals can do to address situations of sexual harassment, outlining the steps SPEEA undertook to make the union and workplace safer for staff and members.

The call was moderated by Sherry Thomas, IFPTE Local 195.

Thank you to all the speakers and IFPTE Locals for making the call a great success.

The next Women & Unions International Conference Call Series will be Spring 2020!
