IFPTE Attends the Biannual AFL-CIO Executive Council Meeting

President Matt Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson attended the Spring AFL-CIO executive council meeting this week in Washington, DC.

The meetings, which occur biannually, focused on several major issues impacting America’s working families, including federal investments in the vast infrastructure needs facing the United States while ensuring that those said federal spending projects are aimed at supporting good-paying, union represented jobs.

Among the other business addressed at the meeting was reaffirming the labor movement’s commitments to striking workers, protecting the right to vote for all Americans, and preparing to guard against any future anti-worker trade agreements. The other highlights of the two-day meeting was an address from union Brother and Secretary of Labor, Marty Walsh, who spent upwards of one hour discussing the Biden Administration’s ongoing efforts to push forward with more infrastructure legislation while promoting the benefits of collective bargaining.

Said President Shuler, "I am thrilled that IFPTE International President Matt Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson were able to join us this week for our first in-person Executive Committee meeting since the beginning of the pandemic. Sister Henson joins a growing list of fierce International leaders who are more than ready and more than capable of meeting the challenges that our movement faces today and in the years to come. I was also pleased to appoint President Biggs to the Article XX Appeals Committee, which handles issues that are critical to labor solidarity. His fair and thoughtful approach to leadership will serve that committee well."
