Constituency Groups

IFPTE has several Constituency Groups run by members who provide guidance and recommendations to our Executive Board and local affiliates.

  • Women Solidarity Network

    • Women in the workforce have historically been harassed and marginalized, and it continues today. Our union must play a role in addressing and stopping this discrimination. The Women Solidarity Network (WSN) of IFPTE works to unite IFPTE women to fight discrimination and harassment and promote women's involvement and recognition within their locals. Learn More

  • Diversity Committee

    • Diversity in the workplace and our union is critical to ensure all voices are heard. The Diversity Committee works to ensure that IFPTE and its locals adhere to our union's principles of inclusion and fighting injustice, especially racism and discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation.

  • Young Workers Committee

    • Young workers are the future of the labor movement in our fight for economic and social justice. Run by young IFPTE members, this committee provides a space for younger IFPTE members to develop ideas on how the IFPTE and its locals can approach and include younger workers within the labor movement, and recruit and train future union leaders.

  • Veteran Committee

    • Former and active reserved members of the armed forces have unique skill sets and challenges when transitioning to civilian life. To ensure their voices are heard, the IFPTE Veteran Committee, works with the AFL-CIO Union Veteran Council and other veteran groups, to provide our Executive Board and locals guidance and ideas on issues and policies concerning veterans.

Legislative

Public policies impact all of us. We believe that it is critical to be engaged when it comes to legislation that affects our members and communities.

Advocacy

One of our primary roles is working with our local affiliates on their legislative priorities, both in Canada and the United States. Working together our voices are stronger than advocating for change on our own. To see some of our current work, check out our “Issues” page. If you are a representative of an IFPTE local looking to recommend or provide comment on public legislation, please contact us.

Legislative Advocacy Week

Every year, with the exception of our convention year, we conduct a Legislative Advocacy Week in Washington, DC. We also conduct similar events in Ottawa, Canada, as well within provincial Canadian governments. At these events, members from various IFPTE locals come together to advocate on a variety of issues to public officials important to their colleagues, professions, and communities.
