IFPTE Condemns Gov. DeSantis’ Disqualifying Comment Attacking Federal Workers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC – The Executive Officers of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), representing 90,000 workers throughout North America, including tens of thousands federal workers across the United States, responded to the comments of Florida Governor and Presidential candidate, Ron DeSantis, who said that on day one of his hypothetical stint as President he would "start slitting throats" of federal workers.

IFPTE President Matt Biggs:

"The deplorable comments of Governor DeSantis should immediately disqualify him as a credible candidate for the highest office in our nation.  Some are asking for him to apologize.  As far as IFPTE is concerned, he can keep his apology to himself and drop out of the presidential race immediately.  A person who espouses these views toward loyal civil servants should never lead our federal government."

IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson:

"We were shocked to hear a Governor and presidential candidate employ such destructive and distrustful rhetoric toward the 2 million federal workers that loyally serve our nation. IFPTE condemns Mr. DeSantis in the strongest possible way."

Across the United States and Canada, IFPTE represents 90,000 highly skilled workers in the federal, public, and private sectors. IFPTE is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO and the Canadian Labour Congress.

The AFL-CIO’s Union Veterans Council also issued a statement this afternoon calling out Gov. Desantis’ vile statement.

“Ron DeSantis’ threats are not simply against federal employees,” said (Combat Infantry Veteran) Will Attig, Executive Director of the Union Veterans Council. “These are casual threats against a significant number of American veterans. Over half a million veterans are currently serving their nation in a second uniform as federal employees, continuing to demonstrate their dedication to our country and their fellow Americans. These brave, selfless Americans deserve better than death threats from a presidential candidate and possible new boss.”
