IFPTE Locals Gather in Winnipeg for Third Annual Legislative Conference

Leaders and members of TEAM/IFPTE Local 161, WAPSO/IFPTE Local 162, and SUP/IFPTE Local 160 came together this week in Winnipeg, Manitoba to participate in IFPTE’s 3rd annual Western Canada legislative conference. 

The theme for the conference, moderated by WAPSO President/IFPTE Canadian Area Vice President, Richard Mahe, explored the role of political and legislative action as it relates to collective bargaining.  Among the guest speakers were SUP/IFPTE Local 160 President/IFPTE Canadian Area Vice President, Michelle Johnston; Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) President, Bea Bruske; Manitoba Minister of Labour and Immigration, Malaya Marcelino; Winnipeg Labour Council President, Melissa Dorvak, and; Manitoba Federation of Labour President, Kevin Rebeck.

Mahe commented that, “this year’s conference provided all of us in the IFPTE family an opportunity to come together in solidarity to strategize and continue to build a legislative program that not only prioritizes the critically important issues facing our members, but to also understand the important link between a strong legislative program and success at the bargaining table.”

IFPTE President, Matt Biggs, TEAM/IFPTE Local 161 president, Dave Eyjolfson, and IFPTE organizers/international reps, Bill Fitzpatrick and Anna Liu, were also among the many in attendance.
