OFL Calls Ford Government's Move to Appeal Bill 124 Decision 'Disgraceful'

The Ontario Federation Labour (OFL), of which the Society of United Professionals (SUP/IFPTE Local 160) is an affiliate, blasted the Ford government’s move in late December to appeal the Ontario Superior Court of Justice’s decision to strike down Bill 124, finding that the legislation violated the fundamental constitutional rights to collectively bargain and to strike. “Bill 124 has severely impacted workers’ living standards and worsened issues like the staffing crisis in our overburdened healthcare system,” said Patty Coates, Ontario Federation of Labour President. The Ford Government’s legal challenge, which came just before the holiday season began, is opposed by a majority of Ontario’s citizens, and was adamantly defeated by the Province’s labour movement, including SUP.
