“So long and thanks for all the fish”- IFPTE Honours the Career of Brother Scott Travers

Longtime Canadian Area Vice President and SUP/IFPTE Local 160 President Scott Travers penned a letter this week to SUP members, staff and pensioners announcing his imminent retirement. In doing so, Brother Travers will celebrate not only a 36-year career in the energy industry, but also one of IFPTE’s strongest trade unionist’s representing not only his members at his Local, but also the interests of IFPTE members all throughout the Federation.

IFPTE President Paul Shearon commented that, “Scott truly is one of IFPTE’s most effective and respected leaders, having been through some of the toughest contract negotiations, and strikes, anywhere in our Federation. His priority has always been to better the working lives of his members, and IFPTE’s members everywhere, something IFPTE will always be grateful for. We wish him and his family nothing but peace and prosperity as he enters this next phase of his life.”

IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Matt Biggs also commented, “Scott has been IFPTE’s leading voice throughout the Canadian Labour Movement, serving on boards of both the Canadian Labour Congress and the Ontario Federation of Labour. Scott’s steady leadership and exemplary strategic vision allowed IFPTE to reap incredible organizing, representational and legislative success, contributions that IFPTE members will continue to benefit from long after he retires. IFPTE is thankful to him for his countless contributions to our union and wishes he and his family nothing but the best.”
