Society of United Professionals' Hydro One Members Gather for Annual Council

Last weekend, the Society of United Professionals/IFPTE Local160 (SUP/Local 160) members employed by Hydro One, came together for their annual council on Sept 12th in Toronto.

Attended by over 80 members and guests, the theme of the council focused on “Mobilizing for Success Through Engagement.”  The meeting was chaired by Hydro One Chapter president Vicki Power.  SUP/Local 160 president/Canadian Area Vice President, Michelle Johnston, IFPTE President Matt Biggs, and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson were on hand to bring greetings to the delegates.

President Biggs provided an update on the Federation’s activities, including the recent gathering of the Council of Canadian Locals in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Secretary-Treasurer Henson took the opportunity to talk about her experience engaging members and the importance of one-on-one conversations when organizing, and SUP President Johnston discussed the union’s work in encouraging policymakers to adopt a clean, affordable and realistic energy portfolio to meet public demands for generations to come.

Hydro One members are preparing for contract renewal negotiations in early 2023. Much of the conversation during the day was geared towards being ready for bargaining and the crucial role that members play in the process.
