WAPSO Welcomes New Labour Relations Officer

WAPSO/IFPTE Local 162 is proud to announce the arrival of their new Labour Relations Officer, Tracy Schmidt. Tracy has over a decade of labour activism under her belt. She first joined the Manitoba labour movement as a member of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) as a letter carrier and mail clerk. CUPW harnessed her energy and the membership entrusted her as a Board Officer and Chief Shop Steward.

Tracy has a passion for advocacy. She enjoys representing members and fighting on their behalf. This appetite lead her to pursue a formal legal education and in 2015 she was awarded the Manitoba Federation of Labour’s Al Cerilli Scholarship in pursuit of that goal. Upon graduating from the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law, Robson Hall, in 2019, Tracy was recognized with the Outstanding Graduating Student Award for her faculty. Given her extensive union background, Tracy was hired by the premier Labour Law firm in Manitoba, Myers LLP. She worked as a student and later as an associate, practicing labour and employment law representing various CLC affiliates.

“I’m so glad to be back on the ground working face-to-face with members. It’s the best part of the job. At the end of the day, we might not get the desired result, but the members will know we gave it our all. I’m excited to be working with such a great organization.”
