Workers Beware – IFPTE Joins Labor Coalition in Sounding the Alarm About Fiscal Commission

IFPTE was one of 19 labor organizations warning House lawmakers about the potential harm to policies and programs that workers and retirees hold sacred if a Fiscal Commission comes to fruition.

In an October 17th letter to House lawmakers, the union coalition wrote that, “fiscal commissions, while perhaps well-intentioned, often have unanticipated and ongoing consequences…” and that the commission, “could effectively bypass the role of a democratically elected Congress in formulating and debating legislation and tax policy.”

IFPTE was also among over 100 organizations signing Congress is considering authorizing a Fiscal Commission as a part of the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) appropriations process, something IFPTE will work towards defeating.
