Gerald Newsome

Gerald Newsome is the Executive Vice President of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, Atlantic Area Vice President, and Business Representative for IFPTE Local 195.

Gerry, as he is known, is a long-time union activist who began his association with Local 195 in 1982 as Sgt. at Arms for the Greystone Park Chapter. He ran for and was elected chapter president 1986. He held that position until 1996 when he was hired as a business representative for Local 195 by our late president, Dominick D. Critelli, Jr. Gerald has held the positions of presidential assistant, Unit President of Maintenance, trustee chair, and vice president.

Gerald chairs the Language Committee on the Negotiations Committee as well as being lead spokesman. Gerald serves as co-chair of the Local’s Political Action Committee. He’s a member of the Central/Northern Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), a member of A. Phillip Randolph Institute Essex County, New Jersey Chapter.

Gerry has completed various labor internships at Rutgers Labor Education Center and the George Meany Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. In June of 1997, he graduated from the Union Leadership Academy at Rutgers University.

Gerry was born in Jackson, North Carolina and grew up in Newark, New Jersey. He and his wife Barbara have been married for 39 years and they have two daughters, Alnisa Denae and Tempestt Ann and 13 grandchildren.
