The worst job-killing bill in America’s history is now unfortunately signed into law. But our movement made sure lawmakers didn’t pass it quietly. Together, we kept the pressure on until the final moments, and forced lawmakers to strip out dangerous provisions attacking federal workers and banning AI protections. Now, it’s time to make sure every worker knows the truth about what this bill does and who sold us out.  

So we’re taking the battle beyond Washington, D.C., and hitting the road with Wednesday’s kick off of our “It’s Better in a Union” nationwide summer of action and bus tour. We hope you will join us on the road as we build power with workers and demand freedom, fairness and security for all.

AFL-CIO LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE ‘IT’S BETTER IN A UNION’ BUS TOUR

This week, the AFL-CIO launched our nationwide “It’s Better in a Union” bus tour to demand freedom, fairness and security for all working people. The summer of action and tour will spend nearly two months crisscrossing the country leading into Labor Day with stops in 26 states. 

After our kickoff rally this week, the bus joined UNITE HERE Local 23 for an event to protect food service jobs at the U.S. House of Representatives. Then it’s headed to join the United Steelworkers (USW) on Saturday, July 12, in Newport News, Virginia. The event will highlight the impact of cuts made by the Trump administration on veterans’ jobs and services.

LABOR DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY FOR DEVASTATING NEW BUDGET LAW

President Trump marked July 4 by signing the worst job-killing bill in America’s history into law—a $5 trillion gift to billionaires that rips health care away from 17 million people, hikes costs for working families and destroys millions of jobs across industries. 

Lawmakers who voted for this are hoping to sneak away before people realize the damage they’ve done, but we’ve already started the fight to make sure working people know the truth about what’s in this bill. As the It’s Better in a Union bus tour gets underway, we hope you will join us in meeting workers on jobsites and in communities across the country—making sure they know who sold us out and what our movement is doing to hold them accountable.

 

WORKER PRESSURE STRIPS UNION-BUSTING PROVISIONS AND AI GIVEAWAYS FROM FINAL BUDGET BILL

Union members across our movement helped strip out dangerous provisions from the final bill, including a reckless gift to Big Tech that would have banned existing or yet-to-be-passed state and local artificial intelligence (AI) laws for 10 years and attacks on federal workers that would hike pension fees and punish them for joining a union.
