IFPTE, DPE, and Coalition Partners Join Letter to Appropriators Requesting Language to Block OMB’s Politicization of Federal Grants
This week, a letter led by the Union of Concerned Scientists, who are partners with IFPTE and other unions in the Coalition for Professional Integrity (CPI), urged Congressional Appropriations Committee leadership and House and Senate leaders to continue to maintain language to "prevent the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) from issuing, finalizing, implementing, or enforcing its proposed Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance or any substantially similar rule.”
IFPTE and other unions, including those in CPI — which is organized under the AFL-CIO Department for Professional Employees — joined the letter and will advocate for Congress to maintain the current ban on OMB issuing the proposed rule. That ban exists in the continuing resolution that Congress passed to fund the government on a short-term basis through December 11, 2026.
The OMB rule would give the Administration unilateral review and control over federal grants, thereby undermining the independent grant-making process and jeopardizing empirical and fact-driven federal assistance and science research by prioritizing political preferences over nonpartisan and peer-reviewed administrative procedures.
