IFPTE Urges Congressional Leadership to Pass Honest CR That Protects Congressional Appropriations
IFPTE renewed the call for Congress to pass a bipartisan Continuing Resolution (CR) to end the shutdown and fund the federal government.
The letter reaffirmed IFPTE’s position that. “The common-sense path forward out of the current impasse is a truly clean CR that protects Congressionally approved spending levels and extends funding to provide time for Congress to pass full-year appropriations.”
As with previous communications and advocacy to Congress during the shutdown, IFPTE continues to highlight the need for Congress on both sides of the aisle to fund the government and not allow the Executive Branch to unlawfully encroach on Congress’s authority to appropriate funding. The letter notes, “The continued erosion of Congress’s constitutionally defined role through impoundments, so-
called “pocket rescissions,” violations of the Antideficiency Act, and other improper withholding of funds not only undermines Congress as a coequal branch of government, it also breaks the public promises made to the American people and degrades Americans’ trust in our government.”
