Reflecting on the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, observed from November 25 to December 10, highlights the urgent need to eliminate violence rooted in gender inequality. It begins on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a day dedicated to raising awareness of violence disproportionately affecting women and girls worldwide.
The campaign’s conclusion on December 10, International Human Rights Day, underscores the universal right to live free from violence and discrimination. This day serves as a reminder of the global commitment to human dignity and equality, values enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Key moments within the campaign include December 6, Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, honoring victims of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, and December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which highlights the heightened vulnerability of women and girls with disabilities to gender-based violence.
As we reflect on the campaign’s conclusion, the IFPTE Women’s Solidarity Network calls on all members to take meaningful action—advocating for survivors, addressing systemic inequality, and fostering safer workplaces and communities. Together, we can uphold human rights and build a future free from gender-based violence.
