SOLIDARITY ALERT: WAPSO/IFPTE Local 162 Stands in Solidarity with CUPE 500 Members

As CUPE Local 500, representing 5,000 Winnipeg city workers, prepares for a potential strike, the members of WAPSO/IFPTE Local 162 are stepping up in SOLIDARITY to support their efforts. On September 12, 93% of CUPE 500 members voted to authorize a strike, with little progess being made since then, according to CUPE 500 president Gord Delbridge.

Delbridge released a statement last Friday saying that, “despite our best efforts, minimal movement was made by the employer.” WAPSO, also representing Winnipeg City workers, made clear that they stand in strong SOLIDARITY with their CUPE siblings. Richard Mahe, WAPSO President/IFPTE Canadian Area President, commented that, “as fellow union members, and coworkers, WAPSO members will continue to support the efforts of CUPE 500 to achieve a fair contract that is reflective of the great work and service their members provide to our community.”
