Data shows that Manitoba workers suffering from burnout are not getting proper support
According to the Manitoba Federation of Labour (MFL), data obtained from the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) shows that “most workers who file a claim for mental health injuries suffered from burnout at work are not getting the help that they need”.
MFL President Kevin Rebeck says the WCB’s two-year-old policy on compensating workers for burnout needs to be revamped, noting only 13% of related claims were approved last year — a rate he calls “pathetic.”
“Workers who suffer injuries on the job deserve the same level of support from the WCB, regardless of whether their injuries were physical or mental,” says Rebeck. “After two years, it’s clear that the WCB’s approach to supporting workers who suffer mental injuries from burnout isn’t working. Manitoba’s unions want to work with the WCB and the provincial government on a new approach that will work for workers.” Read more here.
