Fired Immigration Judges Go Public – Speak to the National Press Foundation

National Association of Immigration Judges (NAIJ/IFPTE Judicial Council 2) members, Judges Anam Petit and Emmett Soper, joined President Biggs as panelists this week at a symposium held in Washington, DC, by the National Press Foundation.

Judges Petit and Soper, who are among the 139 Immigration Judges who have been fired or otherwise removed from their jobs since President Trump assumed office on January 20, addressed upwards of 30 reporters from across the United States for a discussion on the immigration courts and the firing of judges without cause.

Questions addressed by Judges Petit and Soper related to the lack of reasoning for the mass firings of Immigration Judges, the replacement of IJs with military attorneys that have no experience in Immigration or administrative law, the denial of due process to those who rely on a fair and impartial immigration court, and what the future of America’s immigration adjudicatory system will become.

IFPTE has been very active in bringing transparency to the plight of the Immigration courts since January, including an appearance by President Biggs on ABC national news.
