History Made: IFPTE Honors Roxanne Brown on Being Sworn in as United Steelworkers of America (USW) President
IFPTE was proud to have the opportunity to attend the swearing-in ceremony for the new officers of the United Steelworkers of America (USW), including newly minted President, Roxanne Brown. President Brown is the 10th president of the historic Union, and the first woman and person of color elected to the lead the Union.
IFPTE President Matt Biggs, who has worked closely with President Brown for over two decades and attended Sunday’s installation, applauded her election, calling her, “one of the most effective, knowledgeable and thoughtful leaders in the North American labor movement, and someone whose partnership and Solidarity with IFPTE is second to none.” Secretary-Treasurer Henson noted that, “the members of USW, and our entire labor movement, are lucky to have President Brown in our corner.”
Brown address USW members, saying “Working people are at a crossroads…Too many families keep working harder but are forced to settle for less because of the greed and indifference of Wall Street, corporate America and the politicians who do their bidding…It is our job in the labor movement to meet that moment – to organize, to educate and to lead the fight for real economic justice.”
IFPTE congratulates our Union Sister, Roxanne Brown, on her historic election and looks forward to working arm-in-arm with her and the members of the USW. Learn more about President Brown here.
