IFPTE Applauds Owen Herrnstadt’s Confirmation to Export-Import Bank Board

Owen Herrnstadt, who was the longtime director of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) Trade and Globalization Department, was confirmed this week with bipartisan support by the U.S. Senate to serve on the Board of Directors at the United States Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank).

IFPTE, which urged the Senate to support Herrnstadt’s nomination, applauded the confirmation of the first  EXIM Bank director to come from the labor movement.

President Matt Biggs commented:

“Owen Herrnstadt brings with him to the Export-Import Bank an expertise in how global competition impacts American manufacturing jobs.  Importantly, he understands the importance of the Bank’s role in maintaining and expanding American manufacturing and the good paying, union represented jobs that come along with it.”

Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson, also commented:

“Owen Herrnstadt’s confirmation to the Export-Import Bank will no doubt benefit tens of thousands of IFPTE represented workers, particularly those in the aerospace industry.  IFPTE congratulates him on his confirmation.”
