IFPTE Local 1 President Alerts Hill Lawmakers About Unfair Pay Inversion Issue

IFPTE Local 1 President, Corey Henderson, joined legislative director, Faraz Khan, this week for meetings with the offices of Senators Tim Kaine (VA) and Mark Warner (VA), to discuss pay disparities impacting Local 1 members employed by the United States Navy.

The issue, referred to as ‘pay inversion’, has resulted in the salaries of workers being paid under the General Schedule (GS) remaining stagnant or outright reduced due to pay structural deficiencies inherent within the GS system, which overwhelmingly impact IFPTE-represented engineers and technicians employed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.  Henderson commented that, “this pay disparity is not only blatantly unfair to Local 1’s membership, but will also result in the inability for the Navy to retain and recruit engineers and engineering technicians such as myself to perform these critically important and highly skilled functions.  Congress must step-in now to legislate a fix to this and bring back pay fairness for Local 1’s membership.”

The International and the Local 1 will continue to urge Congress to address this issue as a part of its legislative work for the remainder of 2026.
