IFPTE Participates in Howard University’s “Summer for Democracy” Teach-In
IFPTE President Matt Biggs, Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson, and Legislative Director Faraz Khan participated in Howard University’s “Summer for Democracy” teach-in. The teach-in was organized by Howard University students with the Howard University Capel as the lead sponsor.
Sessions included Lobbying 101, Seeking Accountability, Gaining New Rights, and the Case for DC Statehood, among several other sessions held over the two-day event. The session that IFPTE participated in, “Can They Erase Federal Agencies?”, was facilitated by Howard professor Dr. Ron Hira, and informed Howard students about the impacts of the Trump Administration’s unlawful actions to defund federal agencies and public services that Congress has funded; the attacks of the federal civil service and federal employees’ union rights; and ideas about how the public, including Howard students themselves, can join in efforts to fight back and advocate for democracy and government that is rooted in the public interest.
