IFPTE Participates in the AFL-CIO’s 30th Constitutional Convention

As a proud affiliate of the AFL-CIO, IFPTE showed up strong this week in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the AFL-CIO’s 30th Constitutional Convention.  The four-day Convention’s theme was, “With You It’s Better in a Union,” and was focused on the American labor movement’s path forward that empowers working people through grassroots membership engagement, fighting for strong contracts for our members, fighting and defeating the union attacks from the current administration, and empowering working people. 

Among the many highlights of the convention was the re-election of IFPTE-backed candidates, AFL-CIO President, Liz Shuler, and Secretary-Treasurer, Fred Redmond, as the AFL-CIO’s executive officers.  Delegates also elected the Vice Presidents, including IFPTE President, Matt Biggs, to the AFL-CIO top governing body between conventions, the AFL-CIO executive council. 

In addition to Biggs, IFPTE’s delegation to the convention was as follows:  Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson; Western Area VP/ESC Local 20 Board Member, Joan Mah; SPEEA/Local 2001 Area Vice President/SPEEA Council Member, John Dimas; SPEEA/Local 2001 Area Vice President/Midwest Council VP, RMatthew Joyce; SPEEA Area Vice President, Ryan Rule; Atlantic Area VP/Local 196 President, Sean McBride; Southeastern Area VP/Local 70, NPEU President, Amy Chin-Lai; Local 1 Board member, Reggie McNeil; Local 194 President, Paula Rios; Local 194 VP, Lindsay Davey; Assistant to the Executive Officers, Brian Kildee; Legislative Director, Faraz Khan; International Organizer, Liz Sparks, and; International Representative, Karen Bellamy Lewis under the CLUW designation.  The next AFL-CIO convention will take place in 2031.
